Workplace testing
Random drug and alcohol testing in the workplace
Quick, reliable onsite tests for random screening, so you can test without notice and keep your workplace safe.
Random testing works because anyone could be tested on any day. Its real value is deterrence: people come to work fit for work.
Why saliva suits random testing
Random tests usually ask “is this person fit to work today?”. Saliva shows recent use (for example, cannabis for about 6 hours, against days in urine; see detection periods), so a result points to the shift, not last weekend. Collection is quick, can be watched from start to finish, and needs no bathroom. Try SalivaTracer, certified to AS/NZS 4760:2019.
Add a breathalyser for alcohol: a reading takes seconds.
Make it stick
- Pick people genuinely at random, and record how you did it.
- Write random testing into your drug and alcohol policy, so everyone knows the rules. Our article Should Workplace Drug Testing Be Mandatory? covers the basics.
- Send any result that isn’t negative to a laboratory with an oral fluid confirmation kit.
